Red Tent Midwifery
I first became interested in midwifery after the birth of my son. I had a lovely waterbirth in hospital, complete with continuity of care, but I felt that the medical model was limiting and focused entirely on watching out for and managing pathological situations. I soon learned that the midwifery model offers holistic care focused on individual needs and supportive of normal birth. I wanted to offer this to other women and began my midwifery training at Birthwise Midwifery School in 2003. I trained with out-of-hospital midwives in southern Maine and greater Philadelphia, as well as at a maternity clinic in the Philippines. I have been practicing midwifery in southern Maine since 2007.
I live with my husband, two children, and a variety of animals on a blossoming homestead in New Gloucester. I enjoy homeschooling my oldest child, gardening, cooking, and walking barefoot in the grass. I am on faculty at Birthwise Midwifery School and serve as the administrative director of the Association of Midwifery Educators.
I serve families who are planning homebirth within an hour of New Gloucester. All visits are conducted in the comfort of your own home. Evening and weekend appointments are available.
